Your pet, in oil
Bespoke oil portraits hand-painted in Mallorca. Shipped worldwide.
THE COMMISSION PROCESS
-
Each portrait is developed from high-quality photographic references. Clients are invited to share a selection of images—ideally clear, eye-level photographs taken in natural light.
For memorial portraits or older archives, Andrea personally reviews the available material to advise on the best approach for the final painting.
-
Before work begins on the linen canvas, Andrea creates a preliminary composition sketch. This study is shared with the client to review the overall arrangement, balance, and scale.
The painting process commences only after the creative direction is mutually agreed upon.
-
Andrea works alla prima—a traditional method where layers of wet paint are applied directly over wet paint, lending a distinct vitality and immediacy to the brushwork.
Clients receive behind-the-scenes updates as the piece develops. A final review takes place before varnishing to ensure the subject’s character is fully realized.
-
Once the oil paint is sufficiently cured, a professional archival varnish is applied to protect the surface and preserve the painting for generations.
Each artwork is custom-packed to museum standards and shipped worldwide via insured, tracked courier.
“IT HASN’T JUST DELIGHTED HER; IT HAS MOVED HER DEEPLY. SHE SPENT TWO HOURS IN TEARS OF JOY—IT IS A TRUE MASTERPIECE. THE WAIT AND THE INVESTMENT WERE MORE THAN WORTH IT. THANK YOU FOR THE PROCESS, THE UPDATES, AND THE PASSION YOU PUT INTO YOUR WORK. THE RESULT IS SIMPLY STUNNING.”
A Study of Character
Each portrait is painted by hand on fine linen, using archival pigments that ensure the depth of color and texture endure for generations. It’s an honest study of their character—a natural way to keep their company in the room.
FROM THE STUDIO
Andrea Castro is an oil painter based in the countryside of Mallorca. Since 2014, her portraits have moved from her easel to private collections worldwide.
Her background in human portraiture defines her approach to animal subjects: a portrait is fundamentally an observation of character. She focuses on the specific details that define an animal—a familiar expression or the way a dog holds its head—ensuring the canvas captures their actual personality.
She shares her studio with her two dogs, a daily connection to the unique bond she is commissioned to preserve.
